Molly,

I have found two areas to be especially helpful in researching property history. The first place would be the city office of conveyances which has all mortgage information for property sales which can be traced backwards. The second area I have found helpful is the Notarial Archives Research Center. Both are currently located in the 1340 Poydras St. building downtown. Bring change/cash for payment of record copies. Most are less than $3. My property also was once part of a dairy in Carrollton. It seems Carrollton provided lots of milk for New Orleans.

I live at 7823 Zimple st. I was told when I bought it 15 years ago that it was one of the oldest homes in the carrollton area. The home was part of a dairy farm that was moved and raised in the 60's at the above location. The structure is all barge board and in a key lot.

Any info about it or where to search would be greatly appreciated. Molly

I am curious about the history of the house at 1031 Carrollton, also known as the Chalstrom house. It is now part of the the parish of St Andrews Episcopal Church. I have stayed at this house on several occassions while doing post Katrina volunteer rebuild construction. I enjoy the city and am very interested in the rich history of New Orleans. Thank you for any information that you may have on this specific structure. Robin Niderost, Castro Valley, California
