Upcoming Meetings in Carrollton

Dear Carrollton neighbor,

Our next CRNA Board meeting will be held on Thursday, March 14, 7PM at Squeal BBQ on Oak Street, Meetings are open to the public (usually monthly on 2nd Thursday). The agenda will include vote for officers, Jimmy’s appeal to reopen and plans for General meeting later this spring.

Carrollton Area Network has arranged for a Town Hall style meeting with State Sen. Karen Carter Peterson on Thursday March 21, 2013 at 6:00PM at St. Mary’s Dominican High School. We encourage you to attend and to use the attached flyer to pass the word and have the residents of your neighborhood attend this meeting

We (CRNA) accomplish many things to improve the overall quality of life for the residents of the Carrollton-Riverbend. Some of them include:

  • negotiate with new businesses in the neighborhood that want an ABO waiver to sign a Good Neighbor Agreement. A Good Neighbor Agreement is an agreement between the business and the community, where the business owner agrees that in exchange for the ABO waiver that (s)he will operate in a way that preserves our quality of life. Examples of businesses that we have successfully negotiated with include Cowbell, True Burger, Chiba, Pepperoni’s, and Mellow Mushroom. Nearby neighbors will share their feelings about proposed Jimmy’s reopening this week.
  • partner with other nearby community groups to hold such events as Caroling at Palmer Park, and Night Out Against Crime.
  • create a community garden at Johnson Elementary School.
  • work with code enforcement to remove or abate properties that are either blighted or a public nuisance. Our actions this past year has resulted in at least 3 properties in our neighborhood being either abated or demolished.
  • partner with the NOPD to develop a Neighborhood Watch Program.
  • Participate with Carrollton United to meet with the Recovery School District to encourage the school district to reopen the Priestley School property as a neighborhood school.

Thank you,

Your neighbors on the Carrollton-Riverbend Neighborhood Association Board
