A woman managed to get away from an intruder who tried to strangle her inside a Green Street home on Wednesday evening, New Orleans police said.
The victim, a woman in her 30s, was coming out of the bathroom around 7 p.m. when she saw a man in the hallway of a home in the 8200 block of Green Street (just over a block off Carrollton Avenue), according to the initial police report. The woman got away and locked herself in a bedroom, and the man left, the report states.
The attacker — a tall, fit white man in his 20s with blond hair who called himself “Patrick” — had come by the house the day before and tried to speak to the woman, said a neighbor who asked that her name not be published. When the victim found him inside the house the following evening, he was holding a rope but strangled her with his hands, the neighbor said.
While the victim was in the bathroom, he had also turned a radio on so loud in the house that neighbors could hear it from outside, and closed all the window blinds, the neighbor said.
