Carrollton-Riverbend Neighborhood Association (CRNA)

SWB T4 (turbine 4) was supposed to start up again, or at least be installed, on 9 May. SWB has been testing it since then, perhaps delayed a bit by the troubles that caused our most recent boil-water advisory, I don’t know. They said Thursday that testing would continue through the weekend if necessary. The public has been told that the noise will be greatly reduced when it comes online.

Today, 15 May, we were told by Ghassan: “they are still relying on T1 and that ‘T4 tripped offline twice yesterday’.” He hopes that there is no need for the EMDs (diesel generators).

Melissa emailed Ghassan on 9 May to ask the status of the new turbine that was to come online 9 May. Below is his reply to her, LaToya, Joe G, and Ramsey:

“Good morning everyone, Turbine 4 is currently undergoing the final stages of testing. One additional part is being installed today to eliminate the need for the vacuum equipment and the noise it produces. While the machine is available for use, out of an abundance of caution, we are only operating it in a testing capacity until all assessments are complete. We anticipate recommissioning the machine this week and deem it fully operational.

Regarding Turbine 5, we are still on track to bring  that machine on line by mid-June.”

YES, we will have our May CRNA meeting. 13 May at 6:30. I’ll share the Zoom link later, along with the agenda. Right now, I can say that Melissa will update us on the S&WB industrial noise saga, and Joe G will update us on, among other things, the City Council recently holding Entergy NOLA’s feet to the fire regarding the poorly-done load shedding on that very cold February night. We’ll also give updates about the 914 Dante St situation, and more.

Friends of the Cabildo is proud to announce its annual Adult History Class: Neighborhoods of New Orleans. The five-session class will breakdown the neighborhoods of New Orleans from the French Quarter to Bayou St. John to Carrollton.

Historians Charles Chamberlain, Karen Leatham and Joyce Miller will lecture on these historic neighborhoods and tell the stories of their founding, the culture and the people. Beginning on Wednesday, May 5^th at 4:00 p.m. via zoom the classes will be held for five consecutive Wednesdays.

“Everyone in the hood watched Mama duck from the time she first nested in a hollowed out stump at the back corner of the property. A healthy sign of Spring. Viewed from one of our rooms, we have quietly observed her lay the eggs, hatch them, and walk all ten babies the two block trek to the river ! When you were in the yard taking your lovely pictures, Elaine, I was sad that you had just missed their fuzzy exodus by merely one day. I’m a musician, so I wrote 2 songs about them over the last couple months.

I hope ducks will be ducks and all eleven of them return to this spot again next year. I may want to compose some more happy variations on this theme at that juncture. Oh….. I’ve also come to realize these last three years of staring down onto the garden property from my kitchen window every daybreak…..on this side of the street, for just this one block, there are only 8 trees ! For the whole block !!! One is in the back yard behind the Church’s Community House on the corner, and the other 7 are on the property in question.”
