Ugly at Dante & Willow

Dante & Willow

Originally uploaded by nola-shiva.

This is the disgusting scene every morning at Dante and Willow where a convenience store has had these huge dumsters out front for months. In the afternoon and evening the street is full on men loitering with their booze.
What, if anything, could or should be done about this blight on the neighborhood? Any opinions?

Criminal activity data

If you are concerned about local area crime here is an interesting blog to visit: Citizen Crime Watch. Among other things, there are links to recent NONPACC reports for the 2nd District. (I don’t know what the acronym stands for.) The report includes a map and stats by zone and type of crime. I don’t know how good the stats are. Zone K pretty much covers the CRRA area.

There is one standout statistic: There were 32 drug arrests in Zone K in March. That’s one-third of all the drug arrests in all of the 2nd District! All but 4 of the other 22 zones had less than 6 drug arrests. The second highest was 10 in Zone J (between Napoleon & Louisiana and lake side of St. Charles).

Check out the link to Citizen Crime Watch under Blogroll on the right side of this page.

Only on Oak

The Oak Street/Main Street mixer attracted a large turnout last night. The wine and cheese tasting was hosted by the Oak Street Cafe. In case you don’t know, the commercial stretch of Oak Street from Carrollton to Leake Ave. is scheduled for a major upgrade through the Main Street program. It is good news for the whole neighborhood.

Watch for more Only on Oak events over the coming months. They have a website under construction.  (Note: It looks fine with IE and Safari browsers but tiny with Firefox.)

Board meeting tonight

Monday, April 23, at 7 PM at Gelato Pazzo, 8115 Oak Street.
All are welcome.
Tentative agenda:
The Priestley School, the new Oak Street/Main Street program, committee reports (Quality of Life & Zoning/Planning), planning our next general meeting, this weblog.

Hello world!

This is the first post to this weblog, which is operated by the Carrollton/Riverbend Residents’ Association.

It will be a place where “official” information by and about the Carrollton/Riverbend Residents’ Association will be posted. Much of this may be in separate “pages” which will have links on the main page. These pages may include background info about the Association, a meeting calendar, the President’s message, committee reports and so on.

Association announcements will also appear in the posts.

I would personally like to see this blog become an online meeting place for all Carrollton/Riverbend area residents. It can be a place to share information about problems, accomplishments, wishes, events and opinions.

This blog will always be evolving and changing as we learn more about how to use it, and in response to specific issues and events. And, most critically, as a reflection of the participants.

Anyone can participate by posting a comment. And comments about comments.
